An Evening With Perth’s Expert Marketing Panel – 2016 AMI Awards

The evening of November 24 saw The Flour Factory in Perth quickly fill with marketing professionals and business owners to recognise marketing excellence across Perth and greater WA. The event was hosted by the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) and followed a two-part programme; the awards and a discussion from an expert panel.

The carefully selected panel featured five of Perth’s most respected marketing thought leaders including Bonfire’s Head of Marketing, Rene LeMerle. Chosen for their expertise and knowledge within their respective fields, topics for discussion included content marketing, marketing technology, customer experience, data-driven marketing analytics and talent management.

The discussion format allowed experts to share their insights and marketing predictions for the coming years. Initiating the discussion, Rene was asked his opinion regarding the rise of content marketing and the decline of advertising for businesses in 2017.

While Rene emphasised the importance of content as being a key element for a business’ overall marketing efforts, he explained that “content in isolation isn’t a strategy.” Instead, content should be used as a tool to build a story around a brand.

He also mentioned that the key for creating valuable content is understanding your audience; a practice he thinks more small and medium-sized businesses should be investing in.

Other discussions followed by Michelle Testa (Business Director, Dentsu Mitchell), Kerry Milne (Executive Manager, Bankwest), Ty Hayes (Chief Marketing Officer, Curtin University) and De Hallam (Senior Data Planner, Digital Balance).

Now in its thirty-fourth year, The AMI Awards are held annually for each state and are accompanied by a national gala event.  The awards include 28 categories across a wide range of areas for marketing excellence and recognise the vital role marketing plays in creating value for businesses. Bonfire would like to congratulate all the award winners and extend our thanks to the Australian Marketing Institute for hosting this event.
