The Problem: Visibility Moved Upstream

Search behaviour hasn’t disappeared, but where decisions are made has shifted. With AI Overviews surfacing answers before traditional listings, users are resolving questions earlier, often without needing to click through.

This creates a new kind of visibility challenge for brands. Strong rankings alone no longer guarantee exposure, particularly for queries where users are seeking clarity before taking action. In these moments, being present in the AI-generated response becomes more influential than holding a top organic position.

The opportunity for brands lies in a specific type of search: queries that signal intent but carry uncertainty, often tied to regulations, eligibility, or responsibility.

Designed for Decision Moments

AI Overviews consistently surfaced content that resolved a specific question with minimal friction. The pages being cited weren’t broader guides or high-volume plays, they were direct, context-aware answers to high-stakes queries.

That became the foundation of the approach. We identified search moments where intent was clear but uncertainty remained, then built resources designed to close that gap quickly and confidently.

  • For Westsun Energy, that meant addressing the complexity of business solar rebates in WA—cutting through evolving regulations to clearly outline eligibility, timing and available support.
  • For Steven Murphy Electrical, the focus was on responsibility and process, unpacking who is liable for power pole replacement and when action is required.
  • In a very different context, No Birds Car Rental centred on a simple but high-friction question: whether P-plate drivers are eligible to hire a vehicle, and under what conditions.

Each resource was structured to answer the core question upfront, then reinforced with practical, locally relevant detail. Content was shaped around how decisions are actually made, ensuring users could move forward with confidence rather than continue searching.

Results

Each brand secured inclusion within Google’s AI Overviews, placing them directly inside the answer rather than alongside it.

Westsun Energy appeared for “business solar rebates WA”, gaining visibility within a commercially significant search shaped by evolving regulation. Steven Murphy Electrical was surfaced for “electrical power pole replacement”, a query tied closely to responsibility and compliance. No Birds Car Rental earned inclusion for “can I hire a car on P plates?”, resolving a common eligibility question at the point of consideration.

In each case, visibility shifted upstream, with each brand present at the moment the decision was being formed.
